WALZWERK is home to businesses in digital technology, e-commerce and education, and a popular destination for culture and leisure in the Cologne area. The 35,000-square-meter site in western Pulheim welcomes business visitors and members of the public every day. Alongside companies and studios, it houses a theater, swimming pool, restaurants, a church and artists’ workshops. With so much spread across the site, finding your way can be a challenge.

Since December, the WALZWERK app at app.walzwerk.de has been helping visitors get around:

• Interactive site map and tenant search — Find tenants and studios quickly, see them marked on the map and follow a live route from your GPS location.
• Real-time GPS navigation — Directions update on the map as you move towards your destination. If GPS is unavailable, the route starts at the main entrance road or the sign whose QR code you scanned.
• No installation needed — The app runs directly in the browser. Signs with QR codes around the site help visitors find it.
• Mobile and desktop — It works on smartphones, tablets and desktop computers, so directions can be viewed and shared anywhere, including in an email signature.

Protecting visitors’ data was a priority. GPS location is used only for navigation and stays on the visitor’s device. It is neither stored nor processed for any other purpose.

These links are generated as you use the app and can be copied or shared directly from the browser. Tenants will also be able to embed the site map on their own websites at a later date.

The WALZWERK app connects directly to the site’s digital tenant directory, keeping information up to date and applying changes automatically.

Another eventful year is drawing to a close, with plenty of challenges, surprises and milestones along the way. As things begin to slow down, we’re taking a moment to look back.

Alongside product launches large and small, some years in the making, we celebrated five years of Hypercode this summer. And what a party it was! Glorious weather, cold drinks and plenty of laughter made for a wonderful afternoon and evening with familiar faces and new friends. Jens & Stefan told our origin story, and theirs, before table tennis and Mario Tennis took over.

This is exactly what we had in mind when we started Hypercode five years ago: building innovative digital products with the latest technology, for and with ambitious, established clients who want to make a difference in their industries. Forming lasting client relationships. And bringing together experts who enjoy the work, its changing challenges and the possibilities of new technology.

At the end of 2024, we’re proud to say that we’ve made it happen. Thanks to all of you, inside and outside Hypercode.

We’re looking forward to the distinctive apps, impressive corporate websites, clever product configurators and pioneering platforms we’ll work on together next year. With over 900 attendees, 150 experts and 70 sessions across eight stages, the 16th gamescom congress broke all previous records. The program was just as varied: alongside the political and cultural implications of games, it covered AI, virtual and augmented reality — including spatial computing — applications beyond smartphones, consoles and PCs, and lessons for businesses.

We took a closer look at AI in talks from speakers including Google employees. They explored how today’s generative AI tools are already changing software development, and what future systems could bring. The applications span planning and design, development, testing and content creation, both for games and other complex digital products.

Our visit confirmed two things: gaming is a great hobby, and AI is bringing changes that will fundamentally reshape how we work and how people use digital products. Some of that change is still ahead; some is already happening. The time we’ve been putting into AI at Hypercode looks well spent.

With glorious weather and cold drinks, we spent a wonderful afternoon and evening with familiar faces and new friends. The street outside our office was closed to traffic, making room for table tennis, activities for our younger guests and the barbecue gazebo, where Michael & Maik once again worked their magic. Thank you both!

Just before the buffet opened, our managing directors Jens von der Heydt and Stefan Grund shared the Hypercode origin story and the people who helped make it happen. They finished by thanking all the colleagues, clients and partners who have been part of the journey.
