After an introduction to our frameworks and technologies, Timo set to work on an app for a radio station. Alongside the live stream, it includes a regional news feed and ways for listeners to interact with the program and the news. The 26-year-old could put what he’d learned at university straight into practice, particularly in project organization and coding. He told us his existing knowledge had prepared him well for the work. We agree — but more on that in a moment. The team quickly came to value him, both on projects and over lunch, and he could move his project forward independently when needed. His suggestion for future interns, especially those earlier in their studies, was to offer more hands-on support. We’ve taken that on board and will provide it where wanted.

Timo’s work during his placement impressed us, so we offered him a role as a working student in web development. We’re glad he accepted. Since April, he’s been contributing to ongoing projects, including a large healthcare web app for sharing knowledge at a well-known DAX-listed company. After mobile app development, this gives him a chance to build his skills in more traditional web development. He’s also involved earlier in the technical architecture and planning, with more room to broaden his skills and try things out.

Since the summer semester of 2023, Stefan has been teaching “Web Technologies” and “User Experience & Web Analytics” on the BA Digital Marketing and E-Commerce program, led by Prof. Dr. Klaus Kuenen.

In summer 2023, Stefan and fellow lecturer Guido Syré took students through the development of web technology, from ARPANET and Web 2.0 to Web3 and distributed ledger technologies, alongside the business models behind them. Working with diffferent, the students created a digital business model and concepts for an app and website for an educational publisher. The results were excellent.

For “User Experience & Web Analytics” in the winter semester of 2023/24, our colleague Michael Schulze joined us to cover tracking and analysis. We combined UX design with practical insights, and the students worked with our long-standing client chargecloud to plan an application in the growing field of e-mobility.

This semester, Stefan is looking forward to teaching “Web Technologies” with Prof. Dr. Boris Becker and meeting the new group of students.

In January, we welcomed our first two school interns: Firuze and Rufus, both in Grade 10, joined us with different interests. Firuze focused on design, while Rufus had already tried his hand at coding. Both were a great addition to the team and contributed to some of our ongoing projects. They particularly liked the relaxed office atmosphere, where they felt comfortable asking questions. For Firuze, it mattered that she could work independently on tasks we’d agreed together, knowing that any colleague would be happy to help. Rufus enjoyed working on his own project, which the team followed with real interest.

Firuze and Rufus settled in quickly and brought a lot to the team during their two weeks with us. They shared ideas and progress at our stand-ups, and made excellent use of the freedom to explore within their briefs.

Neither has settled on a career yet, but they can both see themselves working in design or computer science in the future.

Since we started Hypercode in 2019, almost every Christmas message has called for words about crises and disasters we never saw coming. This year, the world remains unsettled.

Even so, we’re looking ahead with confidence. We’ll celebrate five years of Hypercode in summer 2024, and if we’ve learned one thing, it’s that we can meet any challenge together, with you and our team. We see it every day in our work, in ways both big and small. We believe the same is true of the wider challenges facing us all.

In 2023, we worked with you to build innovative digital products, some using technologies you won’t have seen anywhere else. We put AI to work in our day-to-day processes and your products, and together we launched web and mobile apps available worldwide for leading brands and market leaders.

Thank you for your trust, the exciting projects and the good times we’ve shared this year. We wish you and your team a wonderful festive season and a successful start to 2024!
