Views Free and Views Pro: What’s the difference?

With Views Free, you can compare websites in up to three active viewports at a time, test interactions and share screenshots. You can save as many custom viewports as you like; only active ones count toward the limit. Each display of a foldable counts separately. To activate a different viewport, turn off one of your current viewports in Settings first.

Live Reload and Auto Reload share ten free minutes per week. The allowance applies per device and resets every Monday. Only active use counts: an established Live Reload connection or Auto Reload running on Home while Views is in the foreground. Using both at once does not count twice. Screenshots exported from Free include a Views badge.

Views Pro unlocks unlimited active viewports, unlimited Live Reload and Auto Reload, and screenshots without the badge. Pro is a one-time in-app purchase with no subscription. You’ll find the current price in the app. If you already own Pro, use Restore Purchase to restore access.

Control Views and reload on changes with the CLI

The free Views CLI connects your Mac or PC to Views on your iPhone or iPad. You’ll need Node.js 20 or newer, both devices on the same local network and Live Reload enabled in Views. Live Reload is available through your weekly Free allowance or Views Pro.

Connect your devices: Start the connection service in a terminal and leave it running:

npx @hypercodestudio/views-cli start

Scan the QR code with the Camera app on your iPhone or iPad and confirm with Connect in Views. You can also use the scanner under Settings → Automation → Live Reload via Views CLI → Open Camera. Once connected, Views displays the CLI’s connection page.

Open your website and start Live Reload: Start your development server separately. Open a second terminal, change to your web project and run:

cd /path/to/your-web-project
npx @hypercodestudio/views-cli open --url http://your-computer.local:5173/
npx @hypercodestudio/views-cli watch

Replace the path and example URL with your project’s details. Your website must be reachable from your iPhone or iPad: use your computer’s .local hostname or local IP address instead of localhost and configure your development server to accept connections from the local network.

Keep start and watch running, with Views open in the foreground. start maintains the connection service; watch monitors your project and triggers a reload when files change. Auto Reload is a separate app feature that refreshes previews at a fixed time interval.

Control Views directly: Run these commands from any directory in another terminal:

npx @hypercodestudio/views-cli reload
npx @hypercodestudio/views-cli open --viewport "iPhone 18 Pro"
npx @hypercodestudio/views-cli home
npx @hypercodestudio/views-cli pair
npx @hypercodestudio/views-cli status

reload refreshes the current website and active previews. open --viewport opens a specific viewport; add --url to change the website at the same time. home returns to the overview, pair displays the QR code again and status helps you check the connection. If your build process already calls reload, you don’t need an additional watcher.

Under Settings → Automation → Live Reload via Views CLI, tap the Markdown icon in the top-right corner to Share instructions as Markdown. The Markdown file includes instructions for AI agents and the viewport names available in your app.

Automate Views with Apple Shortcuts

Apple’s Shortcuts app lets you connect Views to personal automations, widgets, Siri and other apps. Create a shortcut and search for Views when adding an action. These actions are available:

  • Open URL in Views: Opens a website in the overview.
  • Open Viewport in Views: Opens a selected viewport with the current website or an optional new URL.
  • Reload Views: Refreshes the current website and all active previews.

You can also open Shortcuts from Views under Settings → Automation → Shortcuts → Open Shortcuts.

Want an AI agent to help you build a shortcut that controls Views through a link? Under Settings → Automation → URL Scheme, tap the Markdown icon in the top-right corner to share the relevant Markdown documentation. It describes the supported links, their parameters and the available viewports for use with an action that opens URLs.

Open and control Views with the URL scheme

The views:// URL scheme lets you open Views from other apps, launchers, websites or automations. These are the main routes:

  • views://open opens the overview and keeps the current website.
  • views://open?url=https%3A%2F%2Fexample.com%2F opens a website in the overview.
  • views://open?viewport=iPhone%2018%20Pro opens the current website in the named viewport.
  • views://reload reloads the current website and all active previews.

You can also combine a website and viewport in one link:

views://open?url=https%3A%2F%2Fexample.com%2F&viewport=iPhone%2018%20Pro

The website must use HTTP or HTTPS. Percent-encode parameter values, for example by replacing spaces with %20. The easiest option is the URL Builder under Settings → Automation → URL Scheme: enter a website URL, choose a viewport, then copy or open the generated link. Viewport names can come from the device catalog or your saved custom viewports.

Use views://reload exactly as shown, without parameters or a trailing slash.

For AI agents, tap the Markdown icon in the top-right corner of the same screen to Share instructions as Markdown. The Markdown documentation includes the supported routes, URL encoding rules and a list of your available viewports with their sizes. Share it with your agent as a reference for building links and automations.

If a website or the app isn’t working as expected

If a website shows outdated content, a preview doesn’t load correctly or Views isn’t responding as expected, try these steps:

  1. Clear the browser cache in Views: Open Settings → App Settings → Clear Browser Cache and confirm. This also removes cookies and stored website data, so you may need to sign in to websites again. Your History in Views is preserved.
  2. Restart Views: Close the app completely and open it again. Then reload the affected website.
  3. Reinstall Views if needed: If the first two steps don’t help, delete the app and install it again from the App Store. Locally saved settings, custom viewports and History may be lost. Use Restore Purchase to restore an existing Pro purchase.

For Live Reload issues, also check that both devices are on the same network, Views has local network access and start is still running. Reloading on file changes also requires watch. Keep Views in the foreground and check that Live Reload is enabled and your Free allowance is still available or Pro is active.
